ARPA-H has announced the first awards under its BioStabilization Systems (BoSS) program, which funds ways to produce, store, and ship cell-based therapies at room temperature instead of through deep-cold chains. The agency has committed up to $87 million, with three teams selected.
Cell therapies today often depend on cryopreservation and tightly controlled logistics, which add cost and limit where treatments can be delivered. Removing or easing the cold chain would make cell therapies simpler to distribute and administer.
It is early-stage, high-risk research, but it targets one of the practical barriers that keep cell therapies from reaching more patients.
