A feature in Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology News makes the case that for mRNA medicines, the molecule is no longer the hard part, delivery is. As mRNA moves beyond vaccines into therapeutics, getting it reliably into the right tissue is the dominant engineering challenge.
Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) remain the workhorse for mRNA delivery, but most are optimized for the liver. Reaching other tissues, with acceptable tolerability and the ability to dose repeatedly, is where much of the current effort sits.
For developers and manufacturers, that shift puts delivery science, LNP design, process control, and analytics, closer to the center of mRNA programs.
