Optogenetics-rAAV

Overview

Optogenetics is a technology that is largely used to manipulate neuronal activity. AAVs are used to drive the expression of light activated ion channels in select neurons. Fiber optics are then directed toward the cells that express these light activated ion channels, and light can be applied to rapidly manipulate the influx of charged ions and subsequently drives changes in neuronal activity. Most commonly, the ion channel Channelrhodopsin-2 (ChR2) is used to activate neurons while the ion channel Halorhodopsin (NpHR) is used to inhibit neurons. This technology provides a mechanism for selective manipulation of neurons at precise timescales during physiological or behavioral experiments and serves as a powerful tool for neuronal circuit mapping.

PackGene provides a pre-made “off the shelf” AAV systems to drive expression of select light activated ion channels used for optogenetics. These AAVs can be used directly, conveniently and efficiently for in vivo experiments, and come standard with a complete quality inspection report.
