Researchers have identified biomarkers that can help predict which patients are at higher risk of cytokine release syndrome (CRS), one of the most common and dangerous side effects of CAR T-cell therapy.
CRS is a rapid, systemic immune reaction that can follow CAR-T infusion. Being able to flag high-risk patients before or early in treatment could let clinicians intervene sooner and manage the toxicity more safely, an ongoing need as cell therapies expand into more diseases.
The work is a step toward safer, more predictable cell therapy, where managing toxicity is as central to adoption as efficacy.
