July 24, 2026 —

Scribe Therapeutics priced its Nasdaq initial public offering at $128.7 million, becoming the first gene-editing company to go public since Metagenomi’s listing in February 2024.

The California-based biotech sold 8.58 million shares under the ticker SCTX at $15 per share, pricing at the high end of its marketed range and increasing the share count above its initial target. The IPO comes as biotech listings regain momentum following a strong first half of 2026.

Scribe was co-founded by CRISPR pioneer Jennifer Doudna and is led by CEO and co-founder Benjamin Oakes. The company is developing CRISPR-based genetic medicines using its proprietary editing platform, with an initial focus on cardiometabolic disease.

The company’s lead program, STX-1150, is an investigational one-time genetic medicine designed to lower LDL-C, or low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, in patients with hypercholesterolemia. Elevated LDL-C is a major driver of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

STX-1150 is positioned within the rapidly evolving PCSK9 therapeutic area, where companies are exploring multiple approaches, including antibodies, small interfering RNA, and one-time gene editing strategies. Scribe received clearance in May to begin a Phase 1 clinical trial in Australia.

Scribe is still early in clinical development compared with many recent biotech IPOs, most of which involved companies with Phase 2 or later-stage programs. The company is expected to focus near-term investor attention on STX-1150 while its next two programs move toward clinical entry.

Those follow-on candidates include STX-1200, an LPA-targeted program, and STX-1400, an APOC3-directed program. According to the company’s IPO materials, these candidates are expected to enter the clinic in 2027 or 2028.

Scribe has attracted major industry partnerships and investor backing. Eli Lilly is both a partner and a major stockholder, alongside other shareholders including a16z, Avoro, Doudna, Oakes, and co-founder Brett Staahl. Scribe also has a partnership with Sanofi.

The IPO arrives during a busier period for public biotech markets. Several other companies are expected to list in the coming weeks, spanning therapeutic areas including sleep apnea, immunology and inflammation, cardiology, oncology, and pain.

Scribe’s debut highlights renewed investor interest in genetic medicine and gene editing, particularly in large chronic disease markets where one-time therapies could compete with established long-term treatment paradigms. The company’s next major milestones will be early clinical data for STX-1150 and progress toward bringing its LPA and APOC3 programs into human studies.
