Undecimal Bio has launched with $18 million in seed funding to develop siRNA therapies that work outside the liver. The company is a spinout of Eleven Therapeutics, formed months after Eleven’s earlier ScionxBio split.
Small interfering RNA (siRNA) drugs silence disease-causing genes, but the approved and most-advanced products overwhelmingly target the liver, because that is where delivery is solved. Extending siRNA to other tissues is as much a delivery problem as a biology one.
The financing is a modest seed round and the pipeline is early, but it adds to a broader push to take RNA medicines beyond the liver.
