Nanoscope Therapeutics will present four-year follow-up data for MCO-010, its optogenetic gene therapy for retinitis pigmentosa, at the Retina Society’s annual meeting on September 23, 2026.
MCO-010 (sonpiretigene isteparvovec) is a one-time, adeno-associated virus (AAV)-delivered optogenetic therapy that places a light-sensitive protein into surviving retinal cells, an approach designed to work regardless of the specific mutation causing a patient’s vision loss. The data, from the REMAIN long-term extension of the RESTORE Phase 2b/3 trial, are reported to show patients maintaining visual-acuity gains four years after a single injection.
Retinitis pigmentosa is a group of inherited retinal diseases that progressively destroy photoreceptors and can lead to blindness, with few treatment options across its many genetic causes.
