HDT Bio has received an award of up to $39.5 million from the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) under its Genetic Medicines and Individualized Manufacturing for Everyone (GIVE) program, with $5.2 million in initial Phase 1 funding, to develop automated manufacturing of personalized RNA medicines at or near the point of care.
RNA medicines are typically made in large, centralized facilities through multi-step processes that add cost, time, and logistical risk, a poor fit for therapies designed for a single patient. HDT Bio’s consortium will build a closed, fully automated system that handles both production and quality control, with a personalized cancer immunotherapy demonstration alongside Houston Methodist Research Institute.
The award is one of several under the GIVE program aimed at making genetic-medicine manufacturing faster and more distributed.
