Senior Accountant

Site: Houston, TX Department: Finance and Accounting
FLSA Status: Exempt Job Status: Full-time Reports to: Chief Technical Officer
    • The Senior Accountant is responsible for the company’s financial procedures, records, and statements for compliance with laws and regulations. The duties include assuming a leadership role in daily tasks, reviewing financial data to make forecasting decisions and communicating with the Senior management about financial strategies.

General Responsibilities
      • Establish and maintain accounting system which guarantees accurate presentation of financial results
      • Prepare all monthly financial reports (internal and external) for management review and approval
      • Review financial entries throughout the month to ensure proper recording of expenditure (whether capital or expense)
      • Coordinate with the team to ensure entries are corrected prior to closing the month
      • Coordinate with Operations employees to ensure production entries are recorded accurately and timely
      • Control employee access to accounting system, assigning rights to new employees or employees who have changed roles
      • Review and reconcile all inventory-related entries, as well as reviewing and recording all capital asset purchases, disposals, and depreciation/amortization
      • Managing accounts receivable and accounts payable
      • Reconcile all other Balance Sheet accounts monthly and bookkeeping ledgers
      • Process all monthly journal entries (prepaid expense amortization, expense accruals, etc.) to close the month within required timeframe
      • Prepare monthly consolidated financial statements for management review
      • Continuously look for ways to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the financial statement preparation process
      • Filing and remitting taxes and other financial obligations
Additional Job Responsibilities
      • Maintain strict confidentiality for all sensitive or proprietary company information
      • Lead annual audit, pulling necessary documentation for auditor review
      • Assist with tracking construction project expenditures to ensure accurate and timely recording and payment as needed
      • Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
      • Must be self-starter and able to keep a check on company’s finances
      • All other duties as assigned
      • Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Finance
      • 5+ years of experience in accounting or financial analysis
      • In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
      • Advanced MS Excel skills, including VLOOKUP’s and pivot tables
      • Experience with general ledger functions and month-end/year-end
      • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures, close process, and consolidated financial statement preparation
      • Hands-on experience with accounting software packages

Preferred Qualifications
    • CPA, MBA, or CMA is preferred

Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work
    • This is a full-time position, and days of work are typically Monday through Friday during business hours. Occasional after-hours or weekend work will be expected.
